Medical Student Opportunities
The Department of Neurosurgery at Wayne State University offers an elective neurosurgery clinical rotation to Year III and Year IV medical students. The four week rotation is supervised by faculty in the adult clinical services program at Harper University Hospital or Detroit Receiving Hospital, or in the pediatric clinical services program at Children's Hospital of Michigan.
A research elective for students interested in clinical neurosurgery research is also offered by selected neurosurgery faculty. For students interested in basic science research in the neurosciences, the research faculty offer several options for research experience. Wayne State University, Department of Neurosurgery, also offers qualified Year IV medical students an externship in neurological surgery.
Applications for these programs should be directed to both the WSU School of Medicine and the Department of Neurosurgery academic programs.
