March 16, 2012. Just another Friday for most. But not for all, as this Friday was also Match Day. A big day for many senior medical students around the nation, and here at Wayne State University, things were no different. 289 students of the WSU School of Medicine were waiting on that day; waiting to find out where their life would be heading, as they took the next step in their educational and professional careers.

Match Day is also a big day for our department, because it is on this day the newest addition to our department is revealed. This year, Gary Rajah Jr. matched with our department, and became the 70th resident in the history of the neurosurgical training program here at Wayne State University and the Detroit Medical Center.

Gary hails from the west side of the state, where he attended Grand Valley State University for his undergradute education. After earning a degree in biomedical sciences, Gary travelled to the east side of the state to study at the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

While at Wayne State, Gary has been involved in numerous programs and organizations. One of these is....the Department of Neurosurgery. Gary has actually been attending our grand rounds presentations during his time in medical school. He has also been present Gurdjian-Thomas lectures and our Neuro-Oncology update held in 2010.

Gary is very active within the community as well. He has started a free clinic service and a free glucose test strip program in the City of Detroit. In his spare time, Gary enjoys running, playing the trumpet and saxophone, and attending the Detroit Symphony. View more information on our residents and residency program.
