L. Murray Thomas Visiting Professor: Dr. Thomas Origitano
Our next L. Murray Thomas Visiting Professor Lecture will be held on May 18th during our Grand Rounds session. Thomas C. Origitano, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S. will be presenting a talk titled Neurosurgical Quality and Outcomes: What We Know, What We Think We Know, and What We Do Not Know.
Thomas C. Origitano M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S., is the Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine. He serves as the Medical Director of the Clinical Neuroscience Service Line and Co-Director of the Center for Cranial Base Surgery at the Loyola University Medical Center of the Loyola University Health System.
He completed a Ph.D. in Neuro-Biochemistry at Loyola University Chicago and a Doctor of Medicine at the Stritch School of Medicine of Loyola University Chicago. He completed his Neurological Surgery Residency at the Loyola University Medical Center which included training at Queens Square in London, England and at Nagoya University, Nagoya, Japan.
His special clinical interests include cranial base surgery, cerebrovascular disease, computer-assisted surgical therapeutics, minimally invasive endonasal, endoscopic skull base surgery, adult hydrocephalus, pituitary surgery and cervical spine surgery. His current research interests include clinical outcomes, complication avoidance and interventions, intraoperative image guided computer-assisted surgical therapeutics, venous thromboembolism avoidance and socioeconomic aspects of the delivery of neurosurgical cases in the United States. He is an active member of twelve national/international neurosurgical societies.
