Hazem Eltahawy, MD, PhD, FRCS, FACS, Accepted as Fellow of the American College of Surgeons

Hazem Eltahawy, neurosurgeon at the Detroit Medical Center and assistant professor of neurosurgery at Wayne State University, was recently selected to become a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. This distinction recognizes Dr. Eltahawy as one of the preeminent surgeons in the United States. He is the third member of the Department of Neurosurgery at Wayne State University to obtain this distinction with the American College of Surgeons, joining Murali Guthikonda and Sandeep Mittal.

"I'm truly honored by admission to the Fellowship of the American College. This is the largest body of board-certified, practicing surgeons from various subspecialties. I look forward to further contributing to Neurosurgery through collaboration with fellow surgeons," said Dr. Eltahawy.

Dr. Eltahawy holds several academic degrees from Ain Shams University in Cairo, including a master's of science in surgery and a doctorate in neurosurgery; Dr. Eltahawy also completed his neurosurgical residency at Ain Shams. Dr. Eltahawy has also has completed fellowships in functional neurosurgery and neurooncology at the University of Toronto, and a spine surgery fellowship at Wayne State University.

Dr. Eltahawy was previous recognized as a Fellow by the Royal College of Surgeons in England for his work at the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery in London in 2000 2001. He has also been selected as one of the metro Detroit region's Top Docs by Hour Detroit magazine in 2006 and 2010.
