Alana Conti, PhD and Nick Szerlip, MD are the Latest Department Awardees

Two Neurosurgery faculty members were recently noticed for their work in the realm of research.

Alana Conti, PhD was honored by the Wayne State Academy of Scholars for her outstanding work in academic acheivement with the WSU Academy of Scholars Junior Scholars Award. The award, which is given once annually, comes with a honorarium to be used in her academic research program. Dr. Conti was selected this year from a record number of nominated faculty members, all of whom were excellent candidates.

Dr. Conti currently researches neuro-developmental disorders and substance abuse. She also played an important role with the department's most recent Gurdjian-Thomas Visiting Professor Lecture and the annual meeting of the Michigan Chapter of the Society of Neurosciences. Congratulations Alana!

 

Also, Nicholas Szerlip, MD was honored by the American Academy of Neurological Surgery and the Neurosurgical Research Education Foundation with the Young Clinician Investigator Award. This award was bestowed based off the research project he submitted for review, which was titled Autocrine and Paracrine Effects of Neuregulin on Gliomas. He will be provided funding for his research efforts in studying this important cancer link as part of the award. 

Dr. Szerlip is one of the newest members of our faculty, and has taken an active role in our research efforts and the education of our residents. Congratulations goes out to Nick as well.
