Alan Cohen, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.A.A.P.

Our next Gurdjian Thomas Visitng Professor Lecture will be on April 26th, 2011. Visiting this time is Alan Cohen, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.A.A.P. from Case Western University. The title of his talk will be The Origin and Evolution of Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery.

Dr. Alan Cohen completed his undergraduate work at Harvard University, graduating summa cum laude. He is a graduate of Cornell University Medical School. Dr. Cohen completed neurosurgery residency training at New York University Medical Center and his fellowship at The National Hospital in London, England.

Dr. Cohen is currently the Surgeon-in-Chief and the Chief of Pediatric Neurological Surgery at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital. As Chair-Elect of the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Pediatric Neurological Surgery, Dr. Cohen oversees the largest organization of pediatric neurosurgeons in North America. He is also the Director of the American Board of Pediatric Neurosurgery and Chief Editor of the International Journal of Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery.

Dr. Cohen has authored over 125 peer-reviewed publications and has been invited to more than 250 meetings to present his work. His major focus is in the field of Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery. He has helped to develop new instruments and approaches to enhance the safety of procedures using high resolution endoscopes, computer guidance systems, miniaturized instruments and unconventional operative corridors. He is also the Director of a funded fellowship in Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery at Case Western Reserve University.
